The nesting instinct usually sets in around the fifth month of your pregnancy. Now some may not know what the "nesting instinct" is. This is basically the uncontrollable urge to clean your house, and generally go crazy doing all sorts of things that will prepare the 'nest' for the new member of the family.
This is a primal instinct and all the females of almost every species in the world will go through this same instinct in one way or another. It is also an old wives tale that this is one of the signs that labor is going to set in shortly. Females of the animal kingdom are all equipped with this same need. It is a primal instinct. Just as you see birds making their nests, mothers-to-be do exactly the same thing. The act of nesting puts you in control and gives a sense of accomplishment toward birth. You may become a homebody and want to retreat into the comfort of home and familiar company, like a brooding hen. The nesting urge can also be seen as a sign of the onset of labor when it occurs close to 40 weeks of pregnancy.
At 32 weeks I have fallen under the nesting instinct spell. Today I woke with an urge to clean the house. I swept, mopped, dusted, and wiped down all the surfaces in the kitchen. I cleaned the bathroom (which I don't like to do at ALL) I scrubbed down the cupboards, dusted a second time. Then I cleaned the bookshelf, organized the dvds, books, and Josh's ps3 games. I was just about to vaccum the couches and the pillows but then I realized I needed Josh to be here to haul the vaccum up from the basement. With that said- I am freaking out that I didn't get that done yet. I have never felt such an urge to clean. I'm glad tho- it will be nice to have everything clean once the baby comes. I'm sure March will come and I'll scrub everything down again :)
I have also fallen under the homebody spell. I feel like I need to be home all the time. Which isn't very fun when I'm the only one here. I guess I should be getting out because this is the last time I'll be able to go on errands alone without hauling a little baby with me! :)
Other news- the baby has been moving a lot lately...I've been trying to capture it on video- hopefully I will and I'll post it!! :)
I put our first picture in the scrapbook Meg made us. I can't get over how cute it is! I looked at it for about 10 minutes today :) Meg- I will be begging you to go into business so I can have you make more of them for us :)
I put the first ultrasound we got in it's proper place...ahh I can't wait til we can fill the other pages!
